Today I’ll be speaking with Karl Scotland on the synergy between Agility and Strategy. Over the last 15 years he has been an advocate of Lean and Agile approaches, working with companies including the BBC, Yahoo!, EMC Consulting, Rally Software, Cisco and Legal & General. During this time, Karl has been a pioneer of using Kanban Systems and Strategy Deployment for product development, a founding member of both the Lean Systems Society and Limited WIP Society, as well as being active in the community and a regular conference speaker.
We start off by discussing the definition, levels and frameworks for strategy. Within frameworks, we talk in detail about Four disciplines of execution, Middle Out, and OKRs. We then get more specific while talking about leading and lagging indicators with lots of examples. Later, we touch on the importance of having a strategy regardless of the framework and implementing feedback loops at different levels of an organization. Finally, we close with what a personal strategy could look like and whether people can use an Agile approach on strategy.
